Toucan Wines 2010 Carignane - Gold from Orange County's Commercial Wine Competition

The Toucan Wines Carignane has been a favorite ever since we started producing it in 2006. Exclusively from the Evangelho Vineyard planted in 1890 and aged in mostly new oak for up to 22 months.

Our 2008 was awarded Gold & Best of Class, and the following release (as no 2009 was produced) our 2010 has been awarded Gold from Orange County's Commercial Wine Competition. We're also fortunate to have both a 2011 and 2012 Old Vine Carignane from this wonderful vineyard currently resting in barrels.

Jake, the Toucan ranch dog...

We lost Jake today to old age and fine living. Found by Terrie at the German Shorthair Rescue 12 years ago, Jake join joined Samantha (our female Shorthair), and spent his life chasing tennis balls, barking at arriving visitors, following us through the vineyard, and exploring for lizards, gophers, and any animal that roamed his domain. Jake, once bit by a Rattlesnake and survived, also survived extensive tumor removal surgery last year ... but old age caught up with our friend and now we remember him fondly.

Harvest Time Once Again...

Harvest at the Toucan Wines Vineyard is just around the corner, and of course that means cleaning and completing projects that free up space in the winery. Our old vine Carignane is just about ready too - in fact, it looks like we'll be gathering, picking, and processing everything at about the same time. Follow our harvest on Facebook by joining the Toucan Wines group and be a part of action!

2012 Vintage - Hoping for Greatness...

Early summer and the weather is about to heat up for the balance of July, great news for the grapes and for my peace of mind. It has been a near perfect growing season and I'm hopeful for a well-deserved quality harvest in 2012. We've been busy doing our Wine Festivals, working in the vineyard, racking and about to bottle 2010 wines, and generally keeping things under control. 2012 barrels have started arriving (as shown in this picture) and I'm beginning to get excited about the potential for this year's crop. The vineyard is also looking very balanced and showing very little sign of stress.
